Santacruz FOB shutdown troubles commuters

Much inconvenience lies ahead for commuters who regularly pass by Santacruz station until July 18.

A large portion of the middle foot-overbridge (FOB) has been shut since June 19, leaving barely any space for people for walk by and raising questions about the timing of the repairs.

Thousands of people use FOB everyday, which is also connected to the bus depot at Santacruz East.

Though the Western Railways have enclosed the under-construction portion with iron grills, a woman recently slipped and got her leg stuck at the stretch.

When contacted by sunday mid-day, Gajanan Mahapurkar, PRO, Western Railway, said, “It is the divisional engineers who decide where and when repairs must be carried out.”

“We cannot stop railway work due to rains — it must be carried out throughout the year,” he added.
