Monsoons are doing a teaser and will break loose any moment. But, your hair already bearing the brunt of unpredictable humidity. We got stylist Sapna Bhavnani to reveal tips and tricks to keep that lovely mane of yours in ship-shape when the rain gods decide to go berserk

Say goodbye to bad hair days

We love the rains but it doesn’t help when it plays havoc with your hair, and almost everyday seems to be a bad hair day. Curly hair gets an unpleasant Afro 70s look, straight hair gets limp while ironed hair is almost dead by the end of the season.

“If you have curly, thick coarse hair, use a leave-in conditioner to protect your hair from the humidity. Do not use heat on your hair like blow dry or irons, and do not use hot water to wash your hair. Heat is not your friend,” says stylist Sapna Bhavnani. According to her, an oil-based leave-in instead of water-based leave-in works better in this season.

If you have fine, frizzy hair use serums with oil content like Moroccan Oil. Again heat can damage your hair further so it’s best to stay away from it. “Do not brush or comb dry your hair,” she adds. For those with scanty and fine hair, heavy oil based products like serums are a strict no-no.

“It’s best to not undergo any chemical treatment during the rains as it can really damage your hair,” shares Bhavnani. But if you have chemically treated hair (smoothened or straightened) use a leave-in to protect the hair. Also, avoid oil massages but include hair spas in your monthly care regime. For those with coloured hair, use a colour protecting shampoo, conditioner and leave in.
