SC grants bail to encounter specialist Angre

Encounter specialist Ravindranath Angre (50) was finally granted bail by the Supreme Court on Friday.

Angre had surrendered before the Naupada police a year ago after the SC rejected his anticipatory bail plea in an alleged case of extortion and threatening, filed against him by local builder Ganesh Wagh.

Presently lodged in Thane Central Jail, Angre was defended by noted lawyer-cum-politician Arun Jaitley and Sriprakash Sinha, who argued for his bail in the SC.

Sources close to Angre family said, "The family were pleased to learn the release of Angre finally."

According to sources the bail order will be handed over to the Thane jail officials and Angre will be released on Saturday or Monday after completing the legal formalities. However the trial in the case is yet to start in the lower court.

The alleged case
Ganesh Wagh, a small time SRA builder from Thane and Ravindra Angre relation goes way back in 2001 when apparently Wagh had received threatening calls from Chotta Rajan and it was Angre who had handled the case. Since then two often kept in touch and spoke to each other on various topics.

According to Ganesh it was in April 2007 that Angre showed his true colours to the Wagh family. On April 20, Ganesh was admitted to Hinduja Hospital and was getting treated for Hepatitis B and was virtually in state of coma and had lost his memory for few days.

In April Ganesh was seriously ill and Angre would visit him in the hospital. One-day doctors said in front of Angre that Ganesh had very few chances of surviving and from then on Angre realised that he can snatch all our property once Ganesh is dead. It was then Angre hatched the plan of transferring the property of Ganesh by forcefully taking his signature on a blank stamp paper.

Wagh had also taken the assistance of local Sena MLA Eknath Shinde.
