Scared manager rushes to cops as eunuchs strip in new store
The familiar antics of two eunuchs so petrified the manger of a shop in Kurla that she fled to the police station when one of them started shedding their clothes in her shop. The Nehru Nagar police on Monday arrested the two accused, Anushkadevi Nalappa (27) and Eshwari Shettiar (19), after they waylaid Rashmi Hanchate at her shop in Nehru Nagar and demanded a Rs 11,000 “bakshish”. When she refused to knuckle to their extortionist ploy, one of them stripped in front of her.
In her statement to the police, Hanchate said that around 8 pm on Monday the duo barged into the shop, which sells stones, and refused to leave. “The complainant tried to negotiate the amount with the eunuchs but the two refused to budge. The Ratnam shop was inaugurated two months ago, and the eunuchs said that they have not been given their “bakshish”. When Hanchate gave them Rs 100 and requested them to leave the premises, one of them stripped in front of her,” said Suresh Bhavar, senior inspector at Nehru Nagar police station.
According to the police, there was another 18-year-old employee at the shop but he also got scared. Hanchate panicked and left the shop and rushed to the nearby Nehru Nagar police station, less than a kilometre from the shop, and informed the cops about the incident. Soon, a police team was rushed to Ratnam shop. “By the time the cops reached, the two had disappeared. The police officials began to look for the two and they were found just a few shops away, pulling the same stunt on other shopkeepers,” Bhavar said.
Police said that Nalappa and Shettiar, both residents of Antop Hill, were in an inebriated state when the cops caught them. They were brought to the police station and booked under sections 452 (house trespass) 385 (putting person in fear of injury in order to commit extortion), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code. They were produced before the Kurla metropolitan magistrate’s court on Tuesday and were remanded to judicial custody for 14 days. Hanchate was too shaken up to comment on the incident.
