Washington D.C.: Horror filmmaker and director of 'Nightmare on Elm Street' and 'Scream' Wes Craven passed away on August 30 at his Los Angeles home at the age of 76.

Tabloid media revealed that the director, who is best known for creating the iconic Hollywood villain Freddy Krueger from the 'Nightmare' series, was battling brain cancer, reports US magazine.
Craven is survived by his wife Iya Labunka, who is a producer and former Disney Studios Vice President, three children and three grandchildren.
