Sea food with the Shettys

Shetty Lunch Home. The name explains things, in a nutshell. And delivers higher than expectations. Shetty Lunch Home has taken over what used to be Colourz of Spice. What has changed is the menu — this one begins with the Shetty community’s specialty, seafood.

Bangda Kundapur Tawa Fry at Shetty Lunch Home

We stay as focused as the name dictates, and we are rewarded. The Crabmeat Soup ('90) is a typical corn flour thickened one but, generously loaded with chunks of crab and spiked just right with green chillies.

Barely are we through the soup that our Bangda Kundapur Tawa Fry ('160) arrives. Though they claim this can be eaten as a starter, the dish is a wholesome meal that requires the assistance of a plate of Neer Dosa ('40). The mackerel sits in a whole onion-tomato-ginger-garlic-spice mix and steeps in its flavour.u00a0For the mains, we opt a Prawn Gassi ('240).

Pomfret Matki Biryani

A gassi is a Mangalorean curry that usually transports one to heaven, if done right. This version did just that. Plus, the restaurant scores big on the quantity of prawns. A great option with some more Neer Dosa or if you are lucky, Appams.

Finally, like all good Indians, we end our meal with a bowl of starch. The Pomfret Matki Biryani ('250), comes sealed in an earthen bowl sitting on some hot coals. Exotic as it looks, it tastes exactly like any other biryani done well. The mint, whole spices and deep-fried pomfret chunks give it an edge. Still, we felt later that the Goan Curry and Steamed Rice would have been a better pick.

The interiors of Shetty Lunch Home

Shetty Lunch Home also serves up regular vegetarian as well as chicken and mutton Indian fare. Plus, they have a selection of Chinese (we predict it’s going to be Indian-Chinese but, we may be completely wrong). The Shetty’s are great at their seafood preparations, and we suggest you stick to that. The pleasure will be yours.
