Second innings

Kapil Dev, the former cricketing all rounder, has been happily away from cricket for the last 15 years. "I am happy with my new life and passionu00a0golf," says the sportsman. Kapil talks to CS about discovering the other side to life post cricket:

Beautiful yesteryears
I don't even remember the time when I started playing cricket. I was too young and my passion for cricket too great. Till then I had only dreamt of becoming a cricketer. It was a matter of pride to play for the country and to win the World Cup as the team's captain. Nothing can match the high you get when the crowd sitting in the stadium cheers for you.

Discovering self

When I was playing cricket, I dedicated myself to the sport 24x7. But the things that I missed doing back then, are what I'm enjoying doing now. I never thought that my life after retirement would be so stress-free. I am enjoying every bit of it. I can spend time with my family and friends, have late nights and discover new things about self, which was otherwise impossible.

Different strokes
I stay in Delhi and golf is big there; it has replaced cricket in my life. The game is such that even if you hit one good shot and ten bad ones, that one good shot is enough to make you feel happy. People say cricket is played by a huge number of people in India, but if you look around Delhi, I think there are more golfers than cricketers. It's a delight to see Jeev Milkha, Jyoti Randhawa, Arjun Atwal and now young Bhullar and even Shiv Kapur playing golf; they are amazing players.

Musical life
Listening to music, especially the old melodies, has always been on my passion list. India has such great singers that I can spend hours listening to them and not get bored. Apart from this, my other business and private ventures keep me busy. I have decided if cricket doesn't need me, I will leave it alone and still live my life to the fullest!
