Second merit list for Mumbai's colleges declared

The second merit list for admission to degree courses in city colleges affiliated to Mumbai University was declared on Wednesday evening.

Though there is marginal dip in the cut-off in the second merit list, all popular city colleges are almost full.

Many colleges that recorded much high cut-offs in the first merit list most of it going beyond 90 percent; most of them have continued to show equally high cit-offs even in second merit list.

In some of the city colleges for some courses there is no second merit list at all as seats were filled with the first merit list itself.

Dr. Shobna Vasudevan, principal of the Podar College in Matunga, said, "There is marginal drop in the second merit list from what the cut-offs were in the first merit list. Considering the increasing competition, the cut-offs were expected to remain at higher levels."

“Only in science stream we may see a little dip in the cut-off as many students who will secure admission in the first two lists will eventually move on to professional courses such as engineering and medicine. But increasingly for Arts stream top colleges are getting filled with the second list closing as high as around 90 percent,” told Dr. Suhas Pednekar, principal of the Ruia College which is one of the most sought after college for Arts stream.

Dr. Vijay Joshi, Principal of S K Somaiya College, adding to it said, “For all streams the competition is getting tougher every year with class XII results getting better every year.”
