Just four months ago on August 15, Central Railway (CR) had inaugurated the new booking office below SATIS deck outside Thane station. From November 15, CR started full-fledged operations at the booking office.

According to railway sources, around 20 railway staffers were working there when a big section of the ceiling, false ceiling and blades of fan above window number eight and nine fell around 7.30 am.

"Shocked with the incident, booking office staffers had stopped work for few minutes, but resumed considering passenger's inconvenience," Venu Nair, Divisional General Secretary of National Railway Mazdoor Union (NRMU) said, said.

A general manager was supposed to inaugurate the booking office last August, but the Railway hastily completed the work without paying much attention towards quality of work, alleged the railway union. The union has also demanded stern action against the contractor and officials responsible for the sub-standard work.

"It is very serious matter as safety of railway staffers working there was involved," Nair said.

A senior CR official said, "We are going to take departmental action against the contractor and railway staffers responsible for the work."u00a0
