Police officials caught Manjeet Sharma (28) while stealing from the administrative office of Star Protection Security, located at Building number 6 in Ramkrishna Nagar. An alert citizen from the opposite building informed the police after he saw someone trying to enter the office through the bathroom window, leading to Sharma’s arrest.
Soon after they received the call, a police team headed by API Navnath Sonawane along with PSI Samant and Constables Baviskar and Gaikwad nabbed Sharma red-handed stealing valuables from the office. Sonawane said, “After we received the information, we immediately went to the spot and caught him in the act. He had stuffed laptops, mobile phones and some cash in a sack that he had brought along.
We also recovered a mobile phone he had stolen before joining Star Protection. We later came to know that Sharma is a history-sheeter and was behind bars for 11 months in a robbery case.” He has several cases registered against him at Tilak Nagar, Chembur, Sion and Matunga police stations. Sonawane said Sharma had been working with firm for the last four months without prior experience in this field.
Sharma was booked under Sections 380 (theft in dwelling house) and 381 (theft by clerk or servant of property in possession of master) of the IPC. He was produced in the Bandra court yesterday, which remanded him in police custody till March 11.
