Could Virender Sehwag taking the field without his glasses be leading to mistakes in the field?

Virender Sehwag’s lackadaisical approach in the slip is hurting India big time.

On Friday too, the opener spilled a straightforward catch at chest height of Australian opener David Warner.

Batting on 18, Warner was beaten in flight by R Ashwin in his first over and edged to Sehwag at slip. But Sehwag failed to get his hands in the right position and the ball popped out.

It was certainly a costly miss as the southpaw added 41 more runs to his total as he went on to make 59.

It can be recalled that Sehwag had dropped as many as four catches during the fourth Test against England in Nagpur recently. His generosity to the Englishmen, especially Ian Bell, hurt India badly.

In the Mumbai Test against the same opponent, Sehwag dropped an in-form Alastair Cook on 85. Cook tried to cut Harbhajan Singh, only to edge the ball to Sehwag in the slips, but he didn’t look ready and missed a simple opportunity. England went on to win the match by ten wickets and leveled the series.

Further, Cook’s wicket could have been just the right tonic to get Harbhajan’s confidence back.

Interestingly, Sehwag had been practicing during the training camp with spectacles on. But the opener seemed to be having problems adjusting to the glasses as he had dropped quite a few catches at the time.

Could his vision be at fault for dropping the sitter on Day One? Team India needs to find an answer soon or it may prove too costly.
