Selectors should have picked Dinesh Karthik not Wriddhiman Saha: Kiran More

Yuvraj Singh's inclusion in the Test squad that will play Sri Lanka in a three-match series has not surprised many.

The southpaw was dropped from the One-day squad that won the Asia Cup earlier this week and though he has been struggling with fitness and form in recent times, his sheer talent and ability to be a match-winner will always make him a good bet in any side.

But Dinesh Karthik's absence from the squad has surprised a few including former chairman of national selectors Kiran More. Bengal's Wriddhiman Saha has been included as the second wicketkeeper.

Will they pick Saha instead of Karthik for the World Cup? And if that is the case, Saha and not Karthik should have replaced Virender Sehwag in the Asia Cup after he got injured," said More.

The former India wicketkeeper also felt Karthik is a better bet as backup to Mahendra Singh Dhoni in any format of the game.

"People look at him as a limited overs player but his record in Tests is not bad. He can either open or bat in the middle order and is a better batsman than Saha. In that sense, his utility to the team is much more. He can even play as a specialist batsman if needed," More said.

"Also, he has been groomed since a long time so he has more experience and he also played well in the final of the Asia Cup so he is in good touch.

"Having him in the side would have given him a lot of confidence as well," More said adding that apart from Karthik's omission, he was quite happy with the squad and was glad that Yuvraj has been included.
