Udai Singh Deshmukh, aka Bhaiyyuji Maharaj (48) hails from Indore. He runs Shri Sadguru Datta Dharmik Evam Parmarthik Trust and had come to Pune on Saturday night to meet his daughter who had cleared her tenth examination. Maharaj said, "I met my daughter who had cleared her tenth board examination with good marks and later completing her formalities. Around 9.30 pm we left from Pune and around 11.30 pm when we reached Ranjangoan bus stand road, some unidentified persons in a truck behind us dashed our car. I escaped with minor injuries on my hand, but my driver and three volunteers who were seated behind, sustained with minor injuries. I requested my driver to take the car to the side to check if the truck driver had sustained injuries. Instead, the truck driver and other person gheroed our car and started abusing and attacking my volunteers. I was seated inside the car. I got down to mediate when one of them pinpointed at me. Suddenly all the attackers came near me to attack but my driver pulled me inside the car and drove the car fast. My volunteers then alerted the police via control room."
Tushar Patil, spokesperson of Shri Sadguru Datta Dharmik Evam Parmarthik Trust said, "The attack was pre-planned and well executed but luckily everyone escaped. We have informed the Ranjangoan Police and narrated our incident. Maharaj gave first aid to all the injured volunteers. Later around 1.30 am when our car was in Manmad-Malegoan ghat, another another group of 10-15 volunteers started stone pelting the car. For self defence, Maharaj too hit one of the stone back. Maharaj has had a word with State Home minister Ranjit Patil."
He added, "This is not the first time Maharaj has been targetted in such brutal manner. This is happening because Maharaj chose to speak on funds being misused by various religious trusts who are making money of religion. This statement was in the eye of storm for many such illegal trusts. Maharaj's life is in threat. We demand immediate action against such culprits."
Assistant police inspector Sunil Kshirsagar of Ranjangoan Police station said, "We have made a note in our station diary and are probing the case. We shall arrest the culprit soon. In the statement given to us, Maharaj claimed that from Kharadi in Pune some two four- wheelers cars were following their car till the accident spot. Later at Ranjangoan which is an isolated area, the sedan car which was moving ahead slowed down and the truck dashed from behind. The truck driver and gang of four unidentified person had applied some cream on face and they started attacking the volunteers. Later, again another group attacked them at Manmad-Malegoan Ghat which falls under the jurisdiction of Nashik police."
When contacted Ranjit Patil, Minister of State Home (Urban),Urban Development,General Administration, Law & Judiciary, the personal assistant answered the call to confirm about the incident but did not give more details on the attack.
