Sensex rises 74 points on firming overseas trend

The Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex rose by over 74 points or 0.45 per cent, in the opening trade on Thursday on fresh capital inflows by foreign funds amid firming trends in global markets.

The Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex rose by over 74 points or 0.45 per cent, in the opening trade on Thursday on fresh capital inflows by foreign funds amid firming trends in global markets.


The 30-share index gained 74.10 points or 0.45 per cent at 16,320.07 points. Yesterday, it closed down by 30.35 points. The wide-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty moved up by 21.55 points or 0.44 per cent to 4,880.15 points.


Marketmen said fresh buying by foreign funds ahead of the economic survey, to be released later today and firming trends on the global stock markets, mainly lifted the mood here.


Among gainers Infosys Technologies was up 0.41 per cent to Rs 2,587.60, Reliance Industries by 0.44 per cent to Rs 981.50, Tata Steel by 0.48 per cent to Rs 570.15, Sterlite Industries by 0.28 per cent to Rs 763.75 and Wipro by 0.79 per cent to Rs 676.35.

The US Dow Jones Industrial average ended 0.89 per cent higher in yesterday's trading.
