MiD DAY had reported on Tuesday (BMC contract cleaner turns out to be serial child molester) about a series of cases of minor girls being physically abused in the area and the accused finally being caught in the act. He was produced in Bandra Court recently and was released on bail after paying Rs 5,000.
Kalina residents say they are disappointed by the turn of events and demand the accused be externed. “When my daughter identified the accused at the police station, she literally fainted. Such is the situation of little girls in the area,” said a local. Savio Alves, a resident of the same area, said, “We are living in fear that the accused would come back and extract revenge from us and will cause more harm to our daughters. How will I now allow my girl to leave the house to walk the streets alone? The miscreant was laughing when he was arrested and that hurts me a lot.” Another local said while only eight girls have come forward and identified the accused so far, there are several other victims who are yet to muster up the courage.
The accused, BMC contract cleaner Raju Jadhav, was arrested on Sunday night. The 25-year-old, who was nabbed by Vakola police, has allegedly molested at least eight minor girls from Kalina in the recent past. He was chased down by a victim’s relative and others on April 29, and handed over to the cops.
