Chavan came under the scanner after a victim's parents filed a missing complaint at the Shirur police station on September 10. Investigators traced her mobile tower location to Kolhapur, and found her with Chavan.

The victim, a teacher, told the police Chavan had cheated her and lured her into marrying him. He took her to various places before coming to Kolhapur, where he was arrested.

As the news about his arrest spread, two women came forward to say Chavan had cheated them financiallyu00a0 and disappeared. Another woman claimed Chavan married her and sold off her car.
