Seven point plan: Let your kid have a blast at camp

Summer is just round the corner and your kids are an excited lot as they ready for summer camp. The Trip tells you how to gear your kids for their camping experience so that they don't get homesick and have the time of their lives.

* Check with your kid about the kind of camp that they would like to attend, discuss options available, and mutually decide on one. If possible enroll your kid with a friend of their age who can also keep them company.

* Give your child an opportunity to experience staying by themselves before sending them to a camp. Sending them for an overnight to a friend's place is a good start in this direction.

* Pack letter-writing material. Pre-address and stamp envelopes. Encourage your child to write home as often as they wish to do so.

*
Focus on the positive aspects of camping and encourage your child to participate in them.

* Pack a disposable camera, so that your child can shoot his favourite moments and share them later with you.u00a0

*
Pack a first aid kit, and inform kids about bugs and other insects they are likely to encounter and how to deal with them. Also, teach kids how to make their own bed, so that they can manage when on their own.

*
Encourage your kids to mingle with the rest of the group.
