The world’s sexiest super spy’s appeal lives on. With the new James Bond flick, Skyfall ready to hit screens later this year, Bond fans are already sitting on the edge of their seats. Meanwhile, the world is spinning dizzily as Bond-centric events are being held celebrating the agent 007. A run-down of the men who played Bond all through these years, leaving us like the famous Bond martinis, shaken at times, and though, James Bond did not like his martinis that way -- stirred too.

Sean Connery
They do not make them like Sean Connery any more. He brought a ruthless charm to the 007 role with his dimple as deep as a Mumbai pothole and a seriously sexy one cocked eyebrow. His first film, Dr No, was a huge hit and he immortalized the martinis “shaken not stirred” line. Experts claim a mix suaveness and savagery earned him high scores.

George Lazenby
This Australian once sold cars for a living. He did only one Bond film -- On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, which many claim has been the best Bond movie, though that could give rise to lively debate. Lazenby has actually said that the film was a big mistake. The audience thought Lazenby was a mistake too, with the Internet responses screaming: Worst Bond Ever. Hmmm… 007… so not heaven.

The name is Bond. James Bond. Nobody said it quite so smoothly as this son of a policeman. He is the first James Bond to be honoured with a CBE (Commander of the British Empire). Moore has been quoted recently as saying that his former wives (two of them) battered him during his turbulent real-life marriages. He said he was hit with a teapot and whacked over his head with a guitar. So not James Bond, really. What about your license to kill?

After Moore’s smoothness, Timothy Dalton’s rugged allure made the audience sit up and watch the transformation of the most famous spy in the world. Though the Wales-born actor essayed the role in two movies, his car an Aston Martin with skis on wheels found more fans than Dalton did himself. Well, when it’s Bond it’s all about Car-masutra and Kamasutra. The Bond babes can vouch for that.

Nobody could wear a dinner jacket with the same panache as him. However, this Ireland-born actor then decided to free audiences from the Bond-age as the creases on his face outnumbered those on his tuxedo. He knew his ‘license to kill and thrill’ had expired. Yet, for the four-film Bond lifespan, fans believe Pierce was fierce.

Daniel Craig
He brings some celebral content to the role. The most recent 007 has broken records in Quantum of Solace. Craig, an English actor, debuted in a Bond role in Casino Royale where he certainly got a sexy vibe on. He has worked in theatre originally and says that in an increasingly complex world, Bond is an anti-hero of sorts. He is after all, a killer, so audiences need to question their image of Bond during a film, though they may have no doubt about him towards the end. The Bond babes are draped on Craig’s impressive arm in these movies, proving that the spy’s celluloid world is still all about the good and the bed. Ahem.

Global James Bond Day will be marked today, October 5. It is celebrated for the M-16 agent, or the world’s best-known spy called James Bond code named 007. It marks the date when EON Productions released the first ever James Bond movie, Dr. No (on October 5, 1962). Ian Fleming created the character. Ian Fleming wrote the books and EON Productions made movies on the character.

Ian Fleming's Bond titles are going to be re-published in physical and ebook format. These books are releasing this month and Vintage Publishing (division of Random House) has two editions of each title. The jacket designs are inspired by the film posters of Saul Bass. Vintage Classics will launch a Vintage 007 range of 14 titles. Several will include brand new introductions from writers including Giles Foden -- Diamonds Are Forever, Sam Bourne -- Dr No, Tom Rob Smith -- From Russia With Love, Andrew Taylor -- Live and Let Die and Alan Judd -- Casino Royale.

With the Indian film industry going global in terms of projects and locations, the world is eyeing a Desi Bond. For a while now, Bollywood has been going breathless with excitement at the prospect of an Indian gal becoming a Bond babe. While, that has not happened yet we think there is no harm in dreaming. The name is John, John Bond. The man with the eight-pack (or is it six-pack?) abs, and dimples (Sean Connery is not the only one who had them) is yet another pick for a desi Bond. Maybe he still has to mature into an actor instead of a wooden model but James Bond flicks have shown that the Bond acting ability may be limited to a periodical smirk. The body though is surely extremely Bond.
