Shikhar Dhawan climbs to No 9 on ICC's ODI rankings

India's Shikhar Dhawan entered the top 10 of the ICC rankings for one-day international (ODI) batsmen for the first time after moving up two places to ninth.

Dhawan was rewarded for his 159 runs in three matches against the West Indies with a best-ever 736 points. Left-hander Yuvraj Singh also moved up a place to 70th while Virat Kohli leads the table.

In the bowlers’ rankings, offie Ravichandran Ashwin has moved up three places to 14th while pacer Mohammad Shami has made a remarkable jump of 14 places to 50th. Pakistan spinner Saeed Ajmal maintains his hold on the No 1 rank while Ravindra Jadeja is in the third spot.

No 1 spot assured
India start their three-match one-day international (ODI) series against South Africa from December 5 assured of retaining its No 1 spot on the ICC ODI rankings table, irrespective of the outcome of the series.

India are ranked first with 122 points while South Africa are fifth with 107. Even if South Africa sweep the series 3-0, they will only move a place to fourth. But if they win the series by any other margin, they will remain at No.5.

The two sides will play three ODIs December 5-11 and two Tests December 18-30 in South Africa. In their last ODI series in South Africa, MS Dhoni’s team lost 2-3. u00a0
