Ever since a Std X student of Rosary School in Cantonment got seriously injured after she ‘slipped’ on the staircase during school hours, the school’s principal Usha Pereira has not reported to work.

Bimrao Phadtare, deputy director of education department (Pune region), had ordered an inquiry into the matter; officers visited the school to record the principal’s statement. However, they were told that Pereira had not come since the incident took place.

“The school authorities said that she is in deep shock, and is hospitalised since September 14,” said Dhanaji Butte, an investigating officer from the education department. The officers had asked the school administration to make sure that the principal remains available in the school on September 15 so that her statement can be recorded.

“However, when I and another officer from zilla parishad visited the school, she was absent,” Butte said. He also accused the school administration of not cooperating in the investigations. “We aren’t able to take the investigation forward, as the school staff and teachers are not sharing any information,” he averred.

Meanwhile, the girl is undergoing treatment at a private hospital, and her condition is still critical. She has already undergone two major surgeries, and a surgery on her leg is scheduled for today.u00a0The girl’s uncle said, “She is facing difficulty in breathing. Except for one teacher, nobody from Rosary school has visited my niece yet.”u00a0
