The Nalasopara police booked a 21-year-old man on Saturday for allegedly raping his own mother. After he sexually assaulted his mother, the man stabbed himself with a knife and sustained severe injuries.

He is recuperating at a civic-run hospital in Nalasopara. At the time of going to press, he hadn’t been arrested. A police officer said, on condition of anonymity, that he would be arrested after he has recuperated completely. According to the police, on Friday evening the victim had given Rs 20,000 to her son to buy household goods and pay off dues.
But the accused didn’t come home on Friday and splurged the money on alcohol at a bar. He arrived home at 5 am and had a fight with his mother. Later, he raped her under the influence of alcohol. The 40-year-old victim is a widow and does a small-time job at Nalasopara to support her son, who is a class 8 dropout.
