Making sense of the good, bad and often strange trending topics online

It had to happen. UP Chief Minister Mayawati became a trending topic after WikiLeaks portrayed her as a virtual dictator who once dispatched a plane to fetch her favourite sandals from Mumbai. Varun18 had a question:

'Considering she needed an aircraft to pick them up, what is her shoe size?' Someone with the handle Mental Reddy tweeted: 'Julian Assange was closely watching what Mayawati did with her shoes, and my father thought I was jobless.'

Ram Prasad reacted to Mayawati's retort that Assange be sent to an asylum by saying, 'Naturally, that's where all her detractors are sent!' Amit Agarwal asked: 'Why is the world's richest 'dalit ki beti' blaming Assange and not the US diplomats who wrote the cables?' And Pradeep put forth this suggestion: 'Let's send an empty jet to get Assange here.'

He is not King
So, Amar Singh was denied bail by a Delhi court and remanded to judicial custody until September 19 in the cash-for-votes scam. Tongue firmly in cheek, journalist Sucheta Dalal tweeted: 'Will he now seek court permission to attend standing committee meetings on Lokpal?' Sanjeev Miglani described this development as the 'end of a meteoric career on the greasy pole.' Kumar Maitrey created this unlikely scenario: 'Amar Singh sent to his suite at Tihar, where Kanimozhi will prepare dinner, Raja will be in charge of inviting guests and Kalmadi is penning a welcome song!'

Make sense
'Things that don't make sense' prompted examples including 'people who don't love God', 'shampoo for bald people', 'circular pizza that comes in square boxes', 'when someone says you want to have your cake and eat it too - who buys cake just to have it sit there?' and, simply, 'people'.

The last word
From actor Ranvir Shorey: 'Just another regular weekday here in India, with the people working and Parliament not working. Have a nice day.'
