This time, though, by no measure, his performance was below bar. In fact, he paired with another world champion of the past, Manavjit Singh Sandhu to engage in a fierce battle in the men's trap shooting (pairs) event of the Commonwealth Games at the Dr Karni Singh Shooting Range yesterday.

Gagan Narang-Imran Hasan Khan and Vijay Kumar had set the tone earlier in the day by clinching gold for India. But it was the trap event, which added glitter to the Indian gold medals. Especially considering the fact the two pairsu00a0-- India's Mansher and Sandhu and Australia's Michael Diamond and David Vella had to go through a neck-to-neck battle for clinching gold.

The illustrious Aussie pair eventually piped the Indian duo at the post by just one bird. Diamond shot a perfect 100/100, while Vella shot a 98/100 as against India's cumulative tally of 197.

"It was heartbreaking," Mansher said after the nerve-wracking battle. "We shot so well. But shooting a perfect 100 is something. It is really commendable," Mansher added.

For Sandhu, with some nay gold medals trickling in, it was no maza in winning the silver medal. "The way our marksmen are shooting and winning gold medals, silver is not that much fun. In fact, there is added pressure to deliver," he said and admitted that his first round was not up to the mark.
