The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) managing committee, in its meeting yesterday, decided to issue a showcause notice to Prof Ratnakar Shetty, the association's former secretary, vice-president and treasurer.
During last month’s Annual General Meeting, Prof Shetty raised the point about 150 tickets which were part of MCA’s quota for the India-Pakistan T20 tie in Ahmedabad on December 28, being sold by an MCA managing committee member in black. MCA president Ravi Savant promised to probe into the matter then.

According to Shetty, the request for tickets was made to the hosts Gujarat Cricket Association on the MCA’s letterhead, signed by their joint secretary Dr PV Shetty.
Prof Shetty claimed the total cost of those tickets was over Rs one lakh. Each association can buy tickets for its members for matches hosted by other associations. However, in this case, it was allegedly done without the knowledge of any of its members.
Prof Shetty, who is also the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) Game Development General Manager, said he was not aware of the managing committee’s decision.
However, a source told MiD DAY that the managing committee wanted proof of the black marketing allegation. MCA joint secretaries Nitin Dalal and Dr PV Shetty were unavailable for comment.
Meanwhile, the MCA appointed Chandrakant Pandit as head of the Technical Committee which was formed in place of the Cricket Improvement Committee. Former India cricketers Karsan Ghavri, Sameer Dighe and Praveen Amre will be part of the committee. u00a0The Mumbai captain will be a special invitee.
