A Kerala-based yoga retreat comes to a co-working hotspot in Fort to show you how to de-stress with yoga, without going to God's own country

This Saturday, if you drop in at Ministry Of New (MON), you will find guests engrossed in coordinating their body movements with their breathing flow, instead of fervently sending out emails from their laptops. Seated on organic Rumi Earth yoga mats, they will be part of a vinyasa-style yoga workshop introduced by the collaborative workspace in Fort.


The team has roped in the popular Kerala-based yoga retreat, Soul & Surf, which will make its debut in the city to teach Mumbaikars this form. "Their vinyasa style takes you through a continuous flow that is so intuitive, at moments, challenging, and also relaxing, choreographed flawlessly without intermittent pauses," says Marlies Bloemendaal, founder, MON.


The three-hour session, open to members and non-members, will be led by Hayley Mia from Soul & Surf, who comes armed with over 600 hours of teacher training, and has previously been a massage therapist.

"I follow a hands-on approach to yoga, concentrating on alignment whilst encouraging you to find your own path. Vinyasas are progressive sequences that unfold with an inherent harmony and intelligence. We put our sequences together mindful of the specific bodies we are working with, be it surfers or city people," says the yoga expert, who has also curated weekly yoga classes at the space, which will be conducted by city-based yoga teacher, Shaili Chhowala.

The introductory session will also feature a healthy brunch provided by Café Zoe and Yogisattva, with a spread of Green Superfood Smoothie, Prana Banana Chia Pudding, Raw Cacao Bliss Balls, Raw Cacao and Orange Dairy-Free Ice Cream, Fruit Muesli Parfait, Fruit Smoothies, along with a variety of salads, croissants, muffins, soups and granola bars.
