Five years on the Delhis music scene are enough for a group to take note of the city's songs. Eight-piece fusion rock band Advaita has been keeping a keen eye on the capital's musical trends and traits. Here's quizzing them on what's been, is, and will be.

What do you think is the biggest myth that surrounds music in India?
Glamour, goth, attitude, growls and style are the last things that a good score should be associated with. But sadly, in India, the soul of music is still overshadowed by the superficiality of fancy presentation.

Your observation of Delhi's tastes in music.
Delhi loves rock, Punjabi, filmy... everything. Unlike Shillong and Mumbai, where only 'propah' hard rock's a hit, the capital is open to embracing just about anything and anything.

Your views on the most hyped rock artist/band.
It is very important for bands to go through a process of growth. The ones that achieve instant fame through reality shows are the ones that mostly fall flat on their face. Look at Viva.u00a0

Who, according to you, sets the best example as far as Delhi-like music is concerned?
AR Rahman, Shankar Ehsaan Loy, and Shakti, the band, are people we look up to. Parikrama's perseverance is also noteworthy.

Where do young bands like yours get there funds from?
We don't have any Godfatherly backing, and contrary to popular belief, we're nor rich spoilt brats from wealthy families. We arrange the money from our savings, album sales, gigs and independent projects, though each of us has the band on first priority. We also do jingles and documentaries. We've been broke and seen the bad times. Every band needs to grow through their own experiences.

You have no female members in your band. Do you think a group without a 'kudi' still works in Delhi?
We are open for collaborations; if someone fits the bill, she's most welcome. We've also collaborated with female artistes on and off. Yes, a girl is always an attracting factor, but there's nothing like a band can't succeed without a 'her'. Look at most bands around you.
