Local band Swarathma goes green on World Environment Day with their new album

You have heard them before but now get ready to see them in a new avatar. Swarathma, the indigenous folk and fusion band in collaboration with singer Subha Mudgal launches their first music album titled Pyaasi on the eve of World Environment Day.

An environment friendly initiative, the album chronicles the story of the River Cauvery as a mother and her fate of being divided between the two states of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

The album features Vasu Dixit on vocals, Jishnu Das Gupta on bass, Sanjeev Nayak on violin, Varun on guitar, Pawan Kumar on percussion and Montry Manuel on drums.

We caught up with Vasu Dixit for a quick chat on their new album:

What inspired you to release this kind of an album?
The song was written about three and a half years ago when I heard a train conversation between two co-passengers on the Cauvery unrest.

What message does the album Pyaasi convey?

It is all about the fragility of water and its importance in our lives. In urban life we don't understand the importance but in rural places collecting water is a huge task.

What other environmental initiatives does the band in general take?

We have songs on the environment. We also distribute free eco-friendly bags made by Tsunami victims along with our CDs in all our shows.

What are your plans for environment day?

We are planning a show. We may also participate in the green initiatives on radio.u00a0

How can we do our bit for the environment?

We should tell ourselves everyday that we are a part of the environment. We should not try to control it.
