The Godfather of jazz answers all your jazz prayers tonight, while a psychedelic rocker scats you with his phenomenal crooning tomorrow

You've spent many eventful nights at this hotspot, drawn to these gigs like the needle of a compass to the north, like the Mafia to the crime, like decadence to dark chocolate, a moth to a flame... get the drift?

Jazz up this weekend at the BFlat Bar and Highnote restaurant as you join in their first anniversary celebrations.

It's going to be a musical Double Bill from Mumbai, featuring some of the country's finest and senior most musicians from the jazz and rock genres.

Straight-up Jazz

It's indisputable. His name is synonymous with jazz. In fact, a poster on a softboard near his studio or "den", as he calls it, at his Santacruz home in Mumbai, has 'The Godfather of Jazz' written on it. This godfather of jazz in India will take centre stage tonight.

Featuring the Louiz Banks Brotherhood, it's a treat for jazz lovers with the great Jazz pianist Louiz Banks, Gino Banks (Drums) and Sheldon D'Silva (Bass). They will present Shefali Alvares (Vocals), who sings like a trombone and has performed at BFlat with her own funk and blues band.

He's even done his bit to contribute to the patriotic kitty. Banks is credited with the signature anthems, Mile Sur Mera Tumhara, Desh Raag and Spread the Light of Freedom.

He tells us about his performance on Friday, "The Brotherhood Trio with Shefali will explore jazz from mainstream to contemporary jazz rock, latin, funk and fusion with a generous sprinkling of sizzling vocals." So we're sure there's loads to look out for.

On: March 19, Friday
Entry: Rs 300

Sizzling rock

Ashu of Blue Frog, Mumbai, a magnetic stage performer, will give yolk to all your musical fantasies with his genre of funky, psychedelic rock.

He will sing and play piano and keys and his compositions will be enhanced by the artistes he is featuring: Monica Dogra (from the popular Duo, Shaai'r and Func), Sanjay Divecha (Guitar Maestro), Adrian D'Souza (arguably, India's premier jazz drummer) and Sonu Sangameswaran (electric bass guitar).

BFlat has raised the bar for live music in the city. Conceived as a music club that creates a platform for musicians from all genres, it is now a second home to a discerning, music loving audience that Bangalore is akin to. It's a place where people come to enjoy good music with great acoustics and ambience.

And once you've satiated your musical cravings, step up to Highnote, a multi cuisine restaurant for some comfort food, by the team of James Ho and Sunil Shetty.
