Six people were injured in two accidents that took place on the Mumbai-Pune highway within two minutes of each other.

The two vehicles involved were badly damaged in the mishaps near Hotel Sadanand Regency, a few metres from Balewadi Sports Complex.

Around 11 pm, a Tata Sumo belonging to a software company overturned after it veered off the highway. The occupants of the Sumo refused to say which firm they were from, nor did they reveal their identities. Two people, including the driver and security guard were in the vehicle.

The officials said the two present in the car escaped with major injuries as they jumped out before it turned turtle.

"The injured security guard has been sent to hospital. The driver said the road was slippery because of the rain," said a company representative.

In the second accident, a father-daughter duo and two others were injured. Seven people were travelling in the passenger jeep from Satara Road to Mumbai. "A huge container was driving in front of our vehicle. Suddenly the container slowed down and the vehicle braked all of a sudden. Another vehicle that was behind us crashed into us. Our car was reduced to pulp," said N Dhakne, who was bleeding profusely from the nose and mouth.

Another passenger of the jeep, Vinayak Kumbhar was returning with his daughter after fixing her marriage when the jeep met with an accident.

"I had gone to Pachmukh, a village in Satara district. In the evening I fixed her marriage with a local boy and was returning home to give the good news," said Kumbhar.

At the time of going to press, Hinjewadi police officials were still conducting an inquiry and were yet to file a police complaint into the incident.
