Slade Gomes of VIBGYOR High School (Goregaon) starred in the 2-1 win against Dr S Radhakrishnan in the U-16 Div IV Mumbai Schools Sports Association (MSSA) inter-school football tournament held at Azad Maidan yesterday.

Gomes, who suffered a muscle pull soon after scoring a goal, was substituted only two minutes before the final hooter went off. The excruciating pain didn't stop the talented Class IX student from playing through pain. "I am glad that my goal helped the team win. The pain was unbearable ufffdbut I am happy that it isn't a serious injury," Slade told MiD DAY.

Usually a striker, Slade played centre midfield at the request of captain Karan Dalal. It was Karan Thakur who gave the lead to VIBGYOR in the first half. Later in the second half, Ketan Kharvi equalised, before Slade scored the winner just few minutes later off a cross from Rushab Runwal from the right flank.
