Raafae's Route 61
Opposite Vimla Hospital, Yari Road
Telephone: 26363431
*1/2

The entrance to this restaurant is flanked on one side by the Shawarma grill and the other by a juice cart.

They're much more striking than the interiors at Raafae's Route 61. The tables are interesting -- glass inlaid with pebbles and shells -- but the wall art is, umm, weird. The menu at 61 is regular party fare -- Chinese and Moghlai starters, kebabs, rolls, noodles, biryani, caramel custard, brownie, ice creams, juices. Nothing earth-shattering. Guess the lack of crowd means 61 is more of a takeaway joint.u00a0

Raafae's Route 61
Food: inconsistent
Service: okay
Ambience: average

We call for a Mosambi Juice and an Aloo Tandoori 61 Special. And wait. Thirty minutes go by and no sign of either. To pass time, we decide to call for the mains. We get a Veg Fries Shawarma Roll, Tandoori Roti and a Murgh Lahori. The Roll makes it to the table in five minutes, but not a whiff yet of the sweet lime and potatoes.
Hunger pangs attack, so we turn to the roll. A couple of beetroot strips sit at the side of the plate, with a cream dip. By 'Veg Fries', guess they meant unsalted French Fries with a few sad looking carrots for company.

Because that's all there is in this roll, the two veggies slathered with more of the creamy garlicky dip.

Eventually, the Tandoori Aloo 61 Special makes it to the table along with the juice. Nothing special, this aloo.

It's just halved pieces of baby potatoes grilled, spiced and topped with coriander. The tuber hasn't even been cooked well; the fork cuts through with difficulty. The juice is nothing to write home about. We're struggling with the potatoes when the server brings in the Murgh Lahori and proceeds to serve us before we ask him to wait. The saag which makes up the gravy for the Murgh Lahori is delicious, but the chicken chunks have just been popped in, last minute. They're unwieldy and almost tasteless. We scoop up the yum gravy with the roti instead.

Dessert doesn't look very inviting, so we decide to call it a night. The Shawarma grill smells invitingly of chicken as we walk out, but we don't feel up to walking back into Route 61 again.
