After launching a nation-wide call centre to answer commuter queries, the Indian Railway Catering and Touri-sm Corporation (IRCTC) has now made your life even simpler. Now, an SMS to 57886 will get you information on PNR status, coach numbers, accommodation availability and even train schedules.
The IRCTC has tied up with cellphone operators across the country for this facility.
"The charges for the SMS are the usual rates and the service is available with every operator. This service is being offered to facilitate better services for the commuters," said IRCTC group general Manager R D Sharma.
"The commuters can even find out if the reservation chart has been prepared," he added.
The SMS service is available 24/7. The call centre number is 139, which is still active.
