Nudge your net connections in style at Twestival, a one-day social media fest in town

Office ain't office without the Internet anymore, and Internet ain't Internet without social networking. But whether the Webu00a0 of wall connections finds a mention in the 'responsible' circle is still an arguable subject. Courtesy pornography, piracy and irresponsible Tweets. Hang on, though; the perception might change with 'Twestival', a two day Twitter community event that'll raise money and create awareness about global concerns. Yeah, microblogging isn't all masti.

Tweeple tamasha
It will not be a usual fundraiser, where you walk in, meet, greet, sign a cheque and walk out, frowning as if you'll never return. As Kinshuk Sunil, one of the organising members of the show, puts it, "We have made sure that there's fun. Else, even fundraisers would be a flop show." The Delhi edition of the do will be a completeu00a0 celebration of the capital's culture and the spirit of Twitter.

The stars of the evening will be progressive-glam-funk-Indian-underground band Five8. Search for them on MySpace, and you'd know why they're worth every ear-second. Stand up comedy acts and parties are also on cards. Moreover, fest merchandise is up for grabs @ Rs 335. There'll be a couple of photo-printers available at the venue, to help you have your images turn real-life. Don't forget to carry your gadgets with you, and click as many pictures as you please.

Self help
What's even more remarkable is that the festival uses the resources of its own participants to design the shows. And the entire show is volunteer-driven, where anyone who has some time to spare for social good is welcome. "We never fall short of people, but yes, coordination is a challenge. So when we use social media platforms such as Twitter, we're able to bring several such events under one umbrella. Last year, we had brought together more than 1000 volunteers,"u00a0 says Amanda Rose, founder.u00a0u00a0

Going places
The festival will see Twitter users of Delhi coming together to raise funds for the underprivileged across the globe with the help of Concern Worldwide, an international humanitarian organisation. In its last edition, the Indian chapter had raised Rs 90,000, but since the penetration of Twitter has increased manifold over the last year, the amount is expected to be much more generous this time. The festival will be simultaneously held in Bangalore, Chennai, Cochin, Delhi, Goa, Kolkata, and Mumbai, too.u00a0Tweet about it, now.

FIVE 8, what?
The five member band is greatly influenced by Mr Big, Extreme, Porcupine Tree, The Police, Advaita, Thermal and a Quarter, Van Halen, Danger Danger, Skid Row, Vital Information, Niacin, Dave Weckl Band and Tower of Power. They play genres of progressive rock and funk with influences of Eighties rock. The members are Robin Mathew (vocals), Aveleon Vaz (drums), Adhir Ghosh (guitar), Steve Peter (bass), and Shiv Ahuja (keyboards).u00a0
