Unseeded Somdev battled past Ginepri 7-6(6) 6-3 in the second round of the Qualifiers of the USD 549,230 event. Somdev saved as many as 10 break chances on his serve and converted three of the eight chances he got.
It was second meeting between the two players with the Americans coming into the match with a 1-0 head-to-head record.
Somdev next faces Brazil's Guilherme Clezar, who ousted fourth seed and world number 106 Facundo Bagnis 6-2 7-6(4) in his second round match.
