After battling trolls on Twitter for his statement on unchecked use of loudspeakers during religious sermons, Sonu Nigam finally decided to break-up with the micro-blogging site. He made the announcement in a series of 24 tweets last morning.

Comparing the platform to 'porn', where a 'place full of angry people' thrive, Sonu's decision came in the wake of fellow singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya's account being suspended over "offensive" tweets against women.

"I have come to understand that you can wake up someone who's sleeping, but cannot wake up one who's pretending to sleep when he's awake," he wrote in his goodbye message.

Sonu questioned why actor-politician Paresh Rawal and Abhijeet were being criticised for expressing their views.

"I am no right-wing or left-wing [supporter]. I respect everyone's opinion, but I guess here (on Twitter), you have to belong somewhere… I am sorry I don't belong to a place, which spews so much venom with such relish... One could disagree with Abhijeet da's language, but isn't Shehla's (Rashid) accusation that BJP has a sex racket, provocative enough," he wrote. "If there's a newer platform with some filter, I'd be owning it... Goodbye, till then," he signed off.
