Mix ‘n’ match is the key
>> Mix with colours:
The easiest way to get shorts right is by wearing a bright solid-coloured pair with a printed top or vice versa. Several brands are currently offering great muscle tees for both men and women, which look great if you have the right physique for it.

>> Mix styles: Try lace shorts with a butch crisp cotton shirt or sporty basketball-style shorts with a delicate lace top.

>> Mix silhouettes: Go for culottes or a skort (shorts that look like skirts) with a fitted tee or a ganji. Men can try fitted shorts with striped loose tees.

>> Mix prints: If you are okay with clashing prints try wearing a loud print on the shorts with a subtle printed top. You can also add print to your ensemble through a printed bla>> er.

>> Choose the size of your heels according to the occasion.

Our award for Coolest Shorty goes to...
Musician Pharrell Williams (seen here with his wife Helen Lasichanh) for pairing shorts with a suit to the Academy Awards ceremony in March this year. Take a cue from Williams, and women, too, can work the shorts and blazer look either in a solid colour or with a mix of prints. PIC/AFP
