Sports Ministry claims forms were sent on Jan 27

The Sports Ministry has countered the Indian cricket board's claim that they were not informed about the nominations for the Arjuna Awards 2012.

The Sports Ministry has now claimed that it had sent the Arjuna Award circular and proforma to the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) on January 27. According to a release from the Ministry, an Under Secretary in the sports department, SPS Tomar even spoke to Dalpat Vadolikar, who is the BCCI’s Assistant Manager (Operations), between April 18 and 20.


The Sports Ministry release also mentioned that the letters to all the National Sports Federations (NSFs) were sent on January 27.u00a0“In continuation of earlier facts disclosed, the Ministry would like to confirm that the letters to all the Sports Federations were dispatched to all organisations/entities, including BCCI, on 27th Jan, 2012 as recorded by Ministry’s dispatch register for Postal dak- S. No 166 and file no F-4-3/12 -SP IV,” the release stated.


However, according to Ministry officials, the forms for nominations were also available on the Ministry’s website. Arjuna awards are presented to prominent sports personalities. Fast bowler Zaheer Khan was the last Indian cricketer to receive the award — in 2011.u00a0
