The accused was arrested by the Gorai policein an attempt to murder case, while the girl is currently recuperating at a private hospital in Mira road. The police are yet to take her statement.
The accused, Jitendra Sakpal, is a hotel management student and resident of Borivli West, while the 17-year-old victim, is a student and resident of Borivli East.
The two were in a relationship since the past few months. They fought over some issue last week and were not on talking terms since then. Sakpal called the victim at Gorai beach on Saturday evening to sort things out. It was around 5.30 pm, that Sakpal poured acid down the girl’s throat. Her screams alerted passers-by who rushed to her rescue.
Sakpal tried to run, but the locals managed to nab him. The victim was rushed to Bhagwati Hospital but was later admitted to a private hospital in Mira road. The Gorai police arrested Sakpal under Section 307 of attempt to murder. He will be produced in the court today.
