Shah Rukh Khan leaves hospital in 24 hours; Doctor says it's because he made an "excellent recovery"

King Khan was back in his den Mannat just 24 hours after his surgery. He left his sea-facing hospital room atu00a0 around two in the afternoon yesterday and was whisked off from the rear exit.

His surgeon, Dr Sanjay Desai says, "Shah Rukh was discharged early as he made excellent recovery."

The doctor adds that the actor knew everything about the surgery before he went in for it, "He had done his homework well before coming to us. He met experts in London, USA and India and then chose us."

Desai adds that Shah Rukh wasn't at all nervous before the surgery, "In fact, he was quite calm and composed."

When asked if he was nervous about operating on one of India's biggest names, he says, "One is always nervous, stressed and tense before surgery. But once it begins, one does it as a thorough professional.

It's a relief and satisfying experience that everything has gone so well. Now Shah Rukh needs some patience and exercise for the next few weeks till he recovers completely." Dr Desai will be controlling his recovery programme for the next six months.

Dr Desai adds that although there are no dietary restrictions, he will have to be careful for about a month, "Shah Rukh should take it easy in the next couple of weeks and start heavy-duty work (like action and dance sequences) only after six months.

He can start doing non-physical stuff and going out after two weeks."

The surgery took a hour and a half and was arthroscopic or minimally invasive keyhole surgery. Shah Rukh has 10 sutures or stitches two sutures per keyhole.

On Monday, Shah Rukh's good friends Farah Khan and Karan Johar came to meet him yesterday Rani Mukerji dropped into meet SRK before he was discharged.

Course of treatment

Shah Rukh's physio-therapist, Dr Ali Irani, says, "As far as movements and physiotherapy is concerned, we will follow Dr Desai's protocol.

There was a lot of shaving of bone, so Shah Rukh will have to wear a sling for the next few days.

We have already started cryotherapy Monday eveningu00a0 onwards, which involves putting ice and water in a flask held together by the shoulder sling. This puts pressure on the injured area.

There will be no movement for the next three days and after that, we will see how he responds. The sutures will be removed after 10 days after which we can figure out what kind of movement he's capable of.

Though Shah Rukh has been advised not to do heavy action till six months, knowing him, I am sure he will start in three months. He understands the human anatomy very well.

He had torn the same supra sinatus muscle in 2003."
