St Peter's Kimberly two good

Kimberly Fernandes of St Peter's, Mazgaon inspired her school to yet another victory. This time it was against Christ Church, Byculla. The Mazgaon girls defeated the Byculla outfit 3-1 in their final group game to qualify for the knock-out stages in the Mumbai Schools Sports Association inter-school girls U-16 football tournament.

Kimberly's brace along with forward, Neha Sharma's strike, helped St Peter's maintain a perfect record of four wins in as many games.

Daughter of Hanzel Fernandes, who till last year served as coach of Christ Church, Kimberly claimed that it was her father who inspired her to take up football.u00a0

"When I took up football, I used to play with boys only and my father who is a coach, helped me. Though, I train with my school team, I learn something or the other in whatever time I spend with my father," she said.

Equally active in athletics, Kimberly has won a bronze medal at the State level. She ended up third in the pentathlon held in August 2009.

Central midfielder Kimberly brought the scorers early into action when she scored a goal from St Peter's first possible attempt. She struck a volley from just outside the box. She was also assisted partially, if not completely, by Christ Church 'keeper Anam Assadi who couldn't stop the ball.

The second goal was even more dreadful than the first as far as Assadi's goalkeeping skills are concerned.
She let the ball, which was just centimeters away from her feet, roll in to the net. Minutes before half-time, Kimberly got her second when the Byculla side's defence failed yet again to block the shot heading towards the goal.
