It was a black Christmas for the Balsara family as their 21-year-old daughter, Payal Balsara, succumbed to her injuries in the wee hours of Tuesday.
Around 8.30 am last Saturday, 22 year-old Nikhil Bankar, a student of Chetna Institute of Management Studies, Bandra, in a fit of rage, allegedly assaulted his 21 year-old TYBMS classmate Payal Balsara. She had sustained 10 stab wounds on her throat, vital organs and private parts.
Following the stabbing, Bankar, the only son of a sales tax official, apparently committed suicide by piercing the same knife into his stomach. After being treated for an hour, Bankar lost his life.
Confirming the news of Balsara’s death, Dr R S Gulati of Guru Nanak Hospital said that after showing initials signs of stabilisation, her blood pressure dropped, and she finally breathed her last around 5.30 am yesterday despite several attempts by doctors to revive her.
“Her condition had really deteriorated since Monday,” said Dr Gulati. “She was operated upon twice in the last two days. However, the infection had spread to her intestines and she had lost a lot of blood owing to stab wounds sustained on her vital organs.”
Balsara is survived by her parents, who live in Mira Road, and grandmother, who lives in Kalina.
