Stars take to twitter to congratulate Gagan Narang

Ace marksman Gagan Narang's medal-winning feat led to stars from different arenas taking to the micro-blogging site to applaud the shooter.

Stars from both the world of films and sports took to twitter to congratulate shooter Gagan Narang for winning the first medal for India at the London Olympics.


As soon as Narang won the bronze medal in the men's 10-metre air rifle event, cricketing maestro Sachin Tendulkar tweeted that he had made all Indians proud.


"Gagan Narang, you make us proud by winning the first medal in Olympics 2012. Let's hope and pray that we follow it up by achieving many more," the Tendulkar tweeted.

Indian pacer Zaheer Khan was also quick to congratulate the Padma Shree Awardee on his achievement. Zak tweeted, "First olympic2012 medal......WELL DONE Gagan Narang !!!"

Opener Ajinkya Rahane tweeted, "Congrats Gagan Narang..u made the nation proud..Come on INDIA.."

Off-spinner Harbhajan Singh, who's in England playing for Essex in the county championship, hoped Narang's bronze medal would inspire others to win medals. "Well done! Ggagan Narang. Heartfelt congratulation for bringing first medal for us in Oly 2012. Hope many more to follow. Well done India. Go for it," he tweeted.u00a0

While wishing the bronze medallist, World Chess Champion Viswanathan Anand took the opportunity to also talk about the organisation supporting Indian athletes -- Olympic Gold Quest (OGQ). He tweeted, "Congrats to Gagan Narang. Nice boost for OGQ! Whatever happened to Spain?"

Yuvraj Singh, who's working hard to make it to the Indian cricket team for the T20 World Cup, while applauding Narang’s accomplishment took the time to express commiserations wish Beijing Games gold medallist shooter Abhinav Bindra, who failed to make the finals of the 10m air rifle event.

Yuvi wrote on the micro-blogging site, “Loud cheer for Gagan Narang for bringing India 1st medal. Huge moment! Finally at the podium. Hard luck, Bindra. U r still a champ.”

Meanwhile, the film industry also made sure to wish the shooter who has made India proud.

Director Madhur Bhandarkar tweeted, “Congratulations to Gagan Narang for getting the 1st medal for India in Olympics 2012. U have made the whole nation proud.”

Director-actor Farhan Akhtar hoped that this was the first of many medals India wins at the London Games. He wrote, “Congratulations Gagan Narang. May your medal be the first of many for India.”

Actress Deepika Padukone tweeted, “And Gagan Narang gets India our first Olympic Medal! Moment of pride for the nation and Team #OGQ!!!”

Actor Mohanlal also congratulated the shooter, who incidentally was the first Indian to qualify for the London Olympics. Mohanlal said, “Gagan Narang wins Bronze in the 10m Air Rifle!! Congratulations to Gagan Narang for bringing home an Olympic medal!!”
