State board examiners cannot take papers home

SSC and HSC board examiners ticking answer papers while travelling on local trains or sitting up late in the night at home checking papers will face strict action from the authorities, The Times of India reported today.

The board is all set to implement a policy that will force paper-checkers to correct answer sheets during work hours and bar them from carrying the papers back home with them. The board will issue fresh instructions to this effect.

The decision to act tough was taken in the wake of a flood of complaints received by the state board over examiners taking answer scripts home for checking.

"I think it's high time the board implements the policy. It will make the system more transparent and checking foolproof. Whether a paper is corrected on a local train or at one's home, there is always a chance of outsiders having access to the paper," said Fr Francis Swamy, SSC board member and principal of Holy Family School in Andheri.

"Examination papers are confidential documents and they should not be corrected in public places," said Yasmeen Chhagla, principal of Cumbulla High School, Nepean Sea Road.

Tough action
The state education board has disqualified an SSC moderator for harassing examiners. Moderators will be instructed not to harass examiners under them

If mass copying is found at centres, especially in the mofussil areas, the board will have a Plan B and shift students to another centre
