Plans reality show to pick tomorrow's film stars

The state government is all set to go on a talent hunt and give the young people picked a chance to make it big on the silver screen.

So, aspiring actors who dream of making it big should enrol themselves for 'Nanagu Ondh Chance Kodi' (Give me a chance), a reality show to kick off shortly, and give it all they have got. The state-run Kanteerava studios will conduct the talent hunt, which will give young stars-in-the-making a break in Kannada films.

As part of the initiative, well-known music director Hamsalekha's production, which is lined up to begin rolling next year, will be the first to showcase the talent that surfaces.

"The experiment is a first-of-its-kind, as the state government and private production houses are coming together to create such a platform," Hamsalekha told MiD DAY.

"The whole concept mainly aims to throw light on talent that has been deprived of opportunities so far."

Joint venture

Nanagu Ondh Chance Kodi is a joint venture between the state government and private production houses.

While Kanteerava studios will organise the talent hunt in Bangalore and other cities, production houses will short-list the best among them in phases.

To start off, Hamsalekha's production house, HIPL (Hamsalekha Images Private limited) has agreed to join hands with Kanteerava studios.u00a0

Initially 66 episodes are planned at places like Mysore, Hubli, Mangalore and Shimoga, besides Bangalore, for the purpose of spotting talent.u00a0

In the first phase of the initiative, over 30 contestants will be short-listed for various roles ranging from male lead and female lead to the roles played by child artistes, for three films lined up for production by HIPL.u00a0u00a0u00a0

"This is mainly to help and encourage budding talent," said Girish L Mattennavar, chairman, Kanteerava studios.

"We are in talks with production houses and have got a positive response. To start with, we will jointly work with Hamsalekha's production house."

After short-listing talented youth, the studios will also ensure that they are well-trained by professionals, free of cost.

Website coming

Besides this, Kanteerava studios will soon start a website to spread awareness among aspiring actors on the initiative. The website will also showcase talented aspiring actors, which the management of the studio believes will create better opportunities for them.u00a0

The initiative, besides receiving praise from the film fraternity, has raised the hopes of struggling artistes.

"The initiative is certainly encouraging for talented young people deprived of opportunities," said Sindhu Chetan, a young artiste.

"Hamsalekha is known for encouraging young talent. The state government is stepping in for the first time and we hope the initiative will help the talented youth.
