State honour for nuclear scientist

Dr Anil Kakodkar will be felicitated with Maharashtra Bhushan at Gateway of India today at the start of Saptarang, a seven-day fest organised by state government

State honour for nuclear scientist

The state government would be felicitating eminent nuclear scientist and former chairperson of the Atomic Energy Commission of India Dr Anil Kakodkar today with Maharashtra Bhushan at a gala event at the Gateway of India. This will also be the commencement of Saptarang, a week-long festival hosted by the state till January 17.

While Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan would felicitate Dr Kakodkar, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar would be chairing the function. Other ministers attending the event would be city Guardian Minister Jayant Patil, Minister for Cultural Affairs Sanjay Deotale, Minister of State for the Cultural Affairs department Prof Fauzia Khan, and Mayor Sunil Prabhu.


One of the major attractions on day one would be performance of Ustad Rashid Khan in the evening. While Prahlad Tipanya and Rahul Deshpande would be presenting Kabirwani at 6 am tomorrow, a classical vocal performance by Devaki Pandit and sitar funk-fusion by Niladri Kumar will commence at 6.30 pm.

On Sunday, Dr L Subramanyam would be presenting a spiritual morning through his violin, while the evening would be dedicated to Bollywood superstar late Rajesh Khanna. Some of the events have be been planned at Vishnudas Bhave Auditorium in Vashi and Dr Kashinath Ghanekar auditorium in Thane.
