The state Women and Child Development Department has moved a proposal to set up a state-level authority, headed by the principal secretary of the department and a district level authority, which will be the collector.
A proposal for allocating Rs 3 crore has been moved by the state Women and Child Development Department recently that says Rs 20,000 will be given immediately to the victim, while Rs 50,000 will be given for medico legal assistance. A sum of Rs 1.3 lakh will be deposited in the bank account of the victim, which can be utilised for rehabilitation.
The monetary assistance is for counseling, medical and legal aid, and vocational training so that the victim can earn a livelihood and need not be dependent on others, a senior government official stated.
Minister for Women and Child Development Department Prof Varsha Gaikwad could not be reached for comment, as she was busy in the proceedings of the state legislature.
The minister suggested the inclusion of acid attack victims after realising that the victims had to suffer a lot of hardships to earn a livelihood.
While the state government, especially the departments of Home and Law & Judiciary are being taken to task over the dwindling rate of conviction, state government employees have come forward with an appeal.
Mahila Durga Manch, a forum of women employees from the state government issued an appeal on Tuesday asking their colleagues to use their powers effectively as a deterrent to prevent recurrences. u00a0
