Despite the Allahabad High Court verdict in favour of construction of the temple, not much has been done yet
Ayodhya: Slow and steady wins the race. This is the formula Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) is relying upon as far as construction of the proposed Ram temple at Ayodhya is concerned. Since October 1, 2011, exactly a year after Allahabad High Court verdict on Ayodhya, the Ram Janmabhoomi Nyas temple workshop has restarted carving of stones for the proposed Ram temple in Ayodhya. "We came here after a gap of almost four years, and restarted with carving of stones for the proposed Ram temple," Amritlal, a stone carver from Rajasthan, told MiD DAY.

It may be recalled that the work for carving of stones for the proposed Ram temple had started in 1990 and continued till 2007. Amritlal, who was part of workforce in the project earlier too, said almost 65 per cent stones had already been carved in the first phase. "Now, three of us are engaged to restart the remaining work," he said.

When asked when the work would be completed, he said, "It takes one stone carver almost six months to carve one stone of the length about 14 feet. Presently, only three men are carving stone pieces to be fitted in the roof. The management (VHP) may deploy more people to complete the work fast."
Supervisor Girish Bhai, however, said that if the carving of stones gets completed, it would take another four years to assemble the structure. "We have constructed a number of temples using Dholpur stones, including Akshardham in Delhi. The trend is popular in foreign countries. Everyone is taking interest in the temple's construction only because of the controversies surrounding it," Girish said while speaking to MiD DAY.
The two-storey proposed temple with 108 pillars on each floor will be 270-ft long, 135-ft wide and 125-ft high, ringed by a 10-ft wide Parikrama Marg (circumambulation path). Wall thickness will be 6 ft and door frames will be made of white Makrana marble.
During his speech at Vijay Sankalp Samagam rally in Ayodhya, BJP president Nitin Gadkari raked up the emotive temple issue, saying that the Allahabad High Court has paved the way for construction of a grand temple in Ayodhya. Gadkari said, "Now, we want to establish Ram Rajya where every person gets work and every section of the society gets an opportunity for development."
