Student commits suicide after failing US exams

On Friday, Sandip Bhandarkar, a 24 year-old student, committed suicide by consuming an overdose of medicines which were originally prescribed to him by doctors. The Borivli resident studied Pharmacy in the US and had failed in some subjects, which, perhaps, pushed him towards the drastic step.

The Borivli police said Bhandarkar was suffering from a psychological condition, but refused to divulge further details.

On July 2, Bhandarkar received the results of his examinations and learnt that he had failed in five subjects. The next day, he came to Mumbai to meet his family. The police said he was suffering from depression when landed here. On Friday night, Bhandarkar overdosed on some capsules, which were prescribed for his condition. He died in his sleep. The police sent Bhandarkar’s body for a post-mortem, which confirmed the cause of his death, they said. It was then handed over to his relatives for the last rites. The Borivli police has registered a case of accidental death.u00a0
