It cannot get weirder than this. A student has got admission in a college where he did not submit required documents, and is now running around with an apology letter from it to get the mistake rectified, so he can secure admission to an institute of his choice.

Rohan Lohar, who scored 75 per cent in class X, hoped to join a good college in the Commerce stream. He was allotted college no 3 from his preference list, which as per regulation he could skip, to be considered for the next round of admission. But when the second round merit list was declared, he was shocked to see that his name was not included. When he enquired, he got to know that a college where he did not take admission, had confirmed it. Rohan had applied for class XI admission through the online admission process conducted by the office of Deputy Director of Education (DyDE). The centralised process is conducted online for complete transparency and to ensure that the merit is not diluted.
Admission without documents
In the first round of the Common Admission Process (CAP), Rohan was allotted a seat in Adarsh Vidyalaya in Badlapur, the college which was number 3 in his preference list. He skipped taking admission to this college and waited for the second round for better allotment.
"We were told there that my admission has been confirmed in Adarsh Vidyalaya. I was shocked as we did not pay fees or submit documents there," said Rohan.
"The college authorities told us that since we took a form, they thought we would take admission. How can an admission be confirmed if no form was submitted, no documents were given, and no fees were paid?" asked Anil Lohar, Rohan's father, who has been approaching authorities to resolve the issue.
"We are not asking for favours here. We just want a fair chance of admission to a college of our choice. We have been running around since July 18 when the second merit list was declared and Rohan's name was not there. DyDE blamed it on the college and asked us to tell it to cancel admission. But the college administration said they are not authorised to do so. Frustrated, we approached the Education Minister's office. They asked us to take the issue to DyDE's office again for correction," said Anil.
Admission by mistake
Nilima Kedare, head clerk who looks after admissions at Adarsh Vidya Mandir, said, "The parent had taken the form so we thought they might take admission and the student's name was uploaded as confirmed admission by mistake. We have given this in writing to the Deputy Director of Education and have asked for directives to correct the situation."
Deputy Director of Education B B Chavan was unavailable for comment.
