Summer can be the best season to flaunt casuals from your wardrobe. the guide gives you the lowdown on the fashion trends of the season and how you can experiment and style your wardrobe
Shorts and frocks
In summer, denim shorts paired with colourful T-shirts or spaghetti tops makes for a perfect attire. Vibrant hued short denims or cotton capris with a light coloured top (white, grey or pink) works best. City-based designer Jhelam Rele of Vismaya Couture, states, "Last year, neon was the trend of the season. But this year, it's seen only in finishing patterns and lining works. Colours in paloma, light blue and pastel shades are doing the rounds. Monochromes are also trending. As the summer will heat up, tank tops will show their presence. Use of fringes in dresses is also trending. Organic fabrics are being introduced which is good for our environment."
Shorts are airy and comfortable
The best accessories
Accessories for summer are more of a personal preference as maintaining a look replete with bracelets and neckpieces on a hot day can be tough. But there are still some 'must-haves'. A scarf is perfect for summer and is essential to guard your head from direct sunlight. If you are not a scarf person, go for a funky hat. Oversized floppy hats are perfect for pool parties and on the beach. Sunglasses are not only essential for protecting your eyes but also help you alter your look. In this season, you can experiment with colourful eyewear. You can also go for the retro look. In footwear, go for classic flip-flops and flats. You can also include a pair of wedges in your wardrobe that go well with a flowing frock. Men can experiment with their denims, canvas belts and hats.
Frocks are a perfect summer attire
The perfect swimsuit
Who doesn't want a splash of water in this scorching heat? To make a perfect date with your swimming pool, designer Nidhi Munim spells out the tricks: "You should consider your body type while putting on a bikini. Colourblocking is an easy slim-down trick for all pear-shaped body types. Add a lighter colour on the torso to look leaner. If you're bigger on the bottom, try a halter neck swimsuit as it emphasises the neckline," she tells.
Colourful swimwear for the beach
About the latest trends in swimwear, the designer informs, "A trend that seems to crop up every few years is nautical lines. It is an elegant and chic trend and also looks great on all figures. It can be layered with solids, worn separately or even as an all-over nautical ensemble." Alongside nauticals being a must-have print this summer, brash prints in bright colours adorning classic dresses and surf-inspired swimwear is also a trend to watch out for. "The pool slider is a must-have summer sandal for resort wear. Statement gold cuffs are also trendsetters this season," she concludes.

Wendell Rodricks, who is displaying his Spring- Summer collection in the city (At Rudraksha Store, Aundh; till April 21) said that the collection is made keeping Indians in mind. "Expect lots of linen and light silks in this collection. There are floaty blouses, comfy dresses and tunics that breathe for the hot sultry days and balmy evenings. During summer, keep it comfortable. Wear cottons and reserve silk and blended fabric for air controlled venues. Keep the hair away from the face. Use minimal make-up. Wear sandals and footwear that breathe. Above all, keep a cool head," he advises.
